Give Safety. Give Support.
A Better Way depends on financial contributions from churches, civic groups, businesses, foundations, and individuals to bridge the gap between government grants and United Way allocations, and the total needed to provide quality services for survivors of abuse and their children.
An endowment to provide predictable unrestricted income for A Better Way has been established with the Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County. A contribution to the A Better Way endowment will help ensure financial stability for years to come.
Donations for operating expenses and to the endowment are tax deductible.

IRA or other Retirement Account
Both federal and state income taxes will be due on death benefits from an IRA or other retirement plans costing heirs (not a spouse) as much as 40%. If estate taxes also apply, family members might keep as little as 30 cents on the dollar. Giving funds from a retirement account to A Better Way preserves those funds free from tax. Check with your accountant.
Program Tax Credits
Indiana tax credits, awarded by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, are available to A Better Way donors on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those who contribute $100 or more will receive a credit for 50% of their donations when filing their Indiana State tax returns. The contributions can also be used as a deduction on their federal tax return.
This means, for example, that for a $1,000 donation, the donor will receive a $500 state income tax credit. This is much more than just a deduction…it comes right off the top of the donor’s state income tax liability.
Any person, business, or corporation that has an Indiana tax liability is eligible to receive these credits. Credits are claimed for the year in which the donation is made.
Life insurance can be an excellent way to give a major future gift. The donor names A Better Way Services, Inc. as the beneficiary and/or owner of a new or existing life insurance policy.
Marketable Securities and Stock
The donation of appreciated stock is one of the most advantageous ways to give because the gift amount is based on the current full fair market value. The full gift amount is deductible as an itemized charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes, and no tax will be paid on the capital gain if the stock is transferred directly to A Better Way Services, Inc.
Consider including A Better Way in your will. A gift from a bequest in a will or trust is an excellent way to leave your legacy in support of victims of domestic violence.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Gift annuities have become a great way to generate tax-free lifetime income and a tax deduction for the donor, as well as making a difference in the lives of abused women and their children.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust provides income to the donor and/or loved ones. After the death(s) of those receiving the income, the trust assets are transferred to A Better Way.
A Better Way will not disclose privileged or confidential donor information to unauthorized parties. We commit to all donors and prospective donors that information created by, or on behalf of A Better Way, is the property of A Better Way and is protected and shall not be transferred or used except on behalf of our organization.
